Calculate stopping distance including reaction time and braking distance
Dry asphalt: 0.7, Wet asphalt: 0.4, Snow: 0.2
How to use: Calculate total stopping distance including reaction time and actual braking. Enter Speed (current vehicle speed), Friction Coefficient (road surface grip: Dry asphalt = 0.7, Wet asphalt = 0.4, Snow = 0.2, Ice = 0.1), and Reaction Time (driver response time - typically 1.5 seconds, distracted = 3+ seconds). Results show: Reaction Distance (distance traveled during reaction time before braking), Braking Distance (distance to stop after brakes applied), and Total Distance (reaction + braking). Example: 60 MPH on dry road with 1.5s reaction = 132 ft reaction + 144 ft braking = 276 ft total. At 60 MPH on ice = 132 ft + 1,440 ft = 1,572 ft! Critical for safe following distance (3-second rule), emergency braking awareness, and understanding weather impact on stopping ability.
