It works forwards only: you give it an angle and it gives you a ratio. It does not solve for an unknown angle (theta), it has no inverse functions (arcsin, arccos, arctan), it has no radians mode and it does not solve triangles from side lengths.
Sine, cosine and tangent
In a right-angled triangle, sine is opposite ÷ hypotenuse, cosine is adjacent ÷ hypotenuse and tangent is opposite ÷ adjacent (SOH-CAH-TOA). The calculator evaluates these functions for any angle in degrees.
Common values: sin 30° = 0.5, cos 60° = 0.5, tan 45° = 1, sin 90° = 1 and cos 0° = 1.
What this calculator supports
Supported: sine, cosine and tangent of an angle in degrees.
Not supported: finding an angle from a ratio or from side lengths (theta), inverse trigonometric functions, radians, the reciprocal functions (secant, cosecant, cotangent) and step-by-step solutions. Tangent is undefined at 90° and 270° (and every 180° after that), so the calculator shows a message instead of a number.

Frequently asked questions
Can this calculator solve for theta?
No. It only calculates the sine, cosine or tangent of an angle that you enter. It cannot find an unknown angle from a ratio or from side lengths.
Does it use degrees or radians?
Degrees only. There is no radians mode, so convert radians to degrees first (multiply by 180 ÷ π).
Does it have inverse trig functions?
No. It does not have arcsin, arccos or arctan.
Why does tan 90° show an error message?
The tangent of 90° is undefined, because cos 90° is 0 and tan is sin divided by cos. The calculator tells you so rather than showing a meaningless huge number.
